Default Cliff Josephy Johnny Bax Wins WSOP Bracelet never played STUD before

How crazy is this. The man has never played 7 card stud before in his life. Gets a 5 minute lesson before the start of the tournament and wins a WSOP Bracelet in 7 card stud $1500 buyin. Talk about natural talent WOW!!!!. Wouldnt mind hearing from comments from Sklansky on this one.

From pokerpages...

[ QUOTE ]
"I didn't even look at the stud event", Bax said later as his shining gold bracelet was snapped onto his left wrist. I came here to play hold'em..I ran into (my friends) and told them I wanted to play stud, and could they give me some pointers. Each one gave me about five minutes, and the things they were telling me were not about playing my hand, but playing my opponent's hand - things like that."

Whatever Jungblut and Fischman said -- in addition to Mark Dickstein, Eric S. and an online player known simply as "Gigabet" -- must have worked. Bax survived the first day, returned for Day Two and ended up sitting down at the final table second in chips. Five hours later, he was a world champion.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why would you want to listen to some chump online player. Never heard of gigabet, has he played in any real live tournies?

Gigabet does ok in real life. He's also a valuable forum member. (If you were being sarcastic, my meter is malfunctioning.)

in 2000, Phil Ivey won his first bracelet in the PLO event. from what I've heard he'd never played a hand of PLO in his life prior to winning that tournament. Talk about natural talent WOW!!!!. Wouldnt mind hearing from comments from Sklansky on this one.

Seems pretty unlikely but you never know in the world of internet poker I guess. Regardless he is known as a NL Hold' Em specialist and this is his first major live win, funny it is in 7 stud. Didn't Phil Ivey win an Omaha event without ever playing the game before as well?
