Longest World Series of Poker Final Table
The tournament began at 4PM in the afternoon and ended at around 6:45 AM. Don't you think it would have been great if ESPN had displayed the hour and time that most of the big hands were being played? [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Re: Longest World Series of Poker Final Table
ESPN made it look like there were only 2 or 3 hands when it went to HU. Does anyone know the approximate hand count or time it took from HU to final?

Re: Longest World Series of Poker Final Table
IIRC it was less than 10.
I think ESPN made a HUGE mistake in not showing how long it took. Really took one of the more compelling elements of the story away from what happened. The impression I get with their coverage is that they like to (to borrow a wrestling term) "kayefabe" it, and not acknowledge that they're not doing this live. Not discussing the passage of time seems to be part of that, but I don't think it works. |

And it's not like ESPN doesn't do that with other sports. For instance, on SportsCenter on the last Sunday of the NFL season, when three teams are vying for one final playoff spot, they'll flip back and forth between the highlights showing the exact time that each play happened. Yes, this would've been a great idea. |

Re: Longest World Series of Poker Final Table
Overall, I felt ESPN did a decent job with the WSOP coverage, but they definitely dropped the ball when it came to giving viewers perspective on just how long that final table went.
I was there the whole time, but I couldn't stand being in that room the whole bazillion hours. I was delirious by the time it ended and I didn't even play. |

poker tv never really has had much to do with the game itself.

It ended with the 2002 showing. I thought it was a great feature to show that some time did lapse while playing. There are people out there that actually think all hands are shown, not just the highlights. |

However, they don't want to emphasize that they condensed 14 hours into 2 hours by leaving out all the hands wherea single preflop raise took the blinds and antes. Some people don't realize it's like watching the "Baseball Tonight" version of the World Series of Baseball. |
