Party 15-30: AJ against flop call-reraiser
I think I made several errors in this hand...
Preflop raiser had ordinary stats - no strong read there. - - - Party Poker 15/30 Hold'em (10 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is BB with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 2 folds, UTG+2 calls, 2 folds, MP3 raises, 3 folds, Hero calls, UTG+2 calls. Flop: (6.66 SB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players) Hero checks, UTG+2 bets, MP3 calls, Hero raises, UTG+2 calls, MP3 3-bets, Hero caps, UTG+2 folds, MP3 calls. Turn: (8.33 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, MP3 calls. River: (10.33 BB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, MP3 calls. Final Pot: 12.33 BB Results in white below: Hero has Jh Ac (one pair, aces). MP3 has Ks Ah (one pair, aces). Outcome: MP3 wins 12.33 BB. - - - Now, I'm thinking that with the flop call-then-reraise by the preflop raiser, I have to put him on at least a better ace than mine. So, I guess folding (or more likely calling and check-folding the turn) is a better play there, yes? At the time, I thought capping the flop and checking the turn seemed liek giving up too early - but would the fear of a checkraise buy me a showdown with just one bet on a harmless river, with two chances to hit a jack? Any thoughts? Was capping the flop the big mistake? Or was the big mistake the follow-through afterwards, basically knowing he had a hand he wouldn't fold, which was likely better than mine? |

Remove "Texas" from your hand history header and run it through the converter again.

Re: Party 15-30: AJ against flop call-reraiser
One additional tidbit... somewhere around the time I was making my turn bet (maybe just afterwards) the villain typed in "fives or sevens?" - reading me for a set (which I wanted), but then calling down (which I didn't).
I don't ordinarily trust typings as a guide to alter my betting - but FWIW... |

Re: Party 15-30: AJ against flop call-reraiser
When you get 3-bet on the flop you're in a lot of trouble. Capping is -EV.
I would check-call flop/turn and bet-call the river. This way you get maximum action from hands like KK-99 that will often fold to a check-raise while minimizing your losses to strong hands like AA, AK-AQ. |
