after mentioning poker to a few of my buddies everyone of them asked the same thing, "whats the house edge?" this lead me to belive that most people playing in B&M poker truly think it is just a game of chance with a measurable house edge. This would account for the people playin %90 or more of their hands pf. Seeing how i have never been to a B&M I dont really know what kind of response im looking for other I guess i am just rambling.

Most people I've met hear poker and think the three card poker table games where you do play against the house.

given the rake, they wouldn't be wrong. [/ QUOTE ] im sure anyone who is informed enough about poker to know about rake, would not make a comment that makes it sounds like it is impossible to make a living at poker. of course the house wins, that doesnt mean we cant also |

A while back, I hit a royal flush and dragged a rather nice pot. And got one of those really tacky Foxwoods poker room windbreakers.
Anyway, most of the people I mentioned it to asked me "What does that pay?" "Uh... whatever's in the pot?" "What do you mean?" When people tell me you can't win at poker because the house has the edge, after I try to explain how the house isn't even playing any hands, I just summarize it by saying "when you're being attacked by a pack of wolves, you don't need to run faster than the wolves; you just need to run faster than your friends." That usually gets the point across. |

House edge is 10% 4$ max here, at least at 3/6, different for all levels though.....and that edge CAN be unbeatable in certain circumstances.

I remember reading a post about how props at foxwoods (I think?) were comparing notes and realized that not a single one of them were beating the 2/4 game because of the rake.
I love the wolves comment, but I prefer the version: "You don't need to be faster than the cop, only faster than your slowest friend." |

I keep hearing that $2-4 B&M poker is unbeatable because of the rake--but I almost never lose at it.

I keep hearing that $2-4 B&M poker is unbeatable because of the rake--but I almost never lose at it. [/ QUOTE ] At the Woods at least, the rake is the exact same at 4-8, players are not quite so noobish but are still awful, dealers don't hate being there QUITE as much, etc. It's not even close. Don't know how it is most places but I bet the rake at any sub-red-chip game is roughly the same, so why play 2-4? It just sucks your soul. NT |
