Villain is unknown. Fire again on the turn or take the free card? What are the pros/cons of each? I meant to raise $3 preflop. Thanks guys.

Against an unknown I probably take the free card.

I prefer to bet again because i think there is a good chance he will fold his draw or his small pair, but checking behind is ok as you dont risk a largeish bet and you may be able to take it on the river, whether you hit your draw or not

I was thinking about the pros & cons, and what I came up with was actually pretty complex. But I think it can be summarized consisely. I think the pros & cons basically come down to this.
If you bet again on the turn, you win the most when ahead (at showdown) but lose the most when behind. If you check the turn you lose the least, but you also win the least. There are variances even among opponents who are passive. Against some Id me more exposed to losing the most when behind by betting the turn than against others. The type of opponent has a big influence on what I do here. |

How often do we need to be ahead here to bet again?
