Highest Screen Resolution for Dell8600
Hey guys. My dad got me a Inspiron 8600 for college, and of course I use it to play poker as well. I usually play four tables with overlap on a 1680x1050 (widescreen) res. But I heard that the laptop could go to a higher res allowing me to play w/o overlap. I went to Propeties to try and change it but 1680x1050 was the max for the laptop. How do I get a higher resolution? Does it have something to do with the video card?
As you can see, I'm not very computer savvy. |

Re: Highest Screen Resolution for Dell8600
You can't. It has to do with the screen itself, not the video card. This is not an upgradable component (as far as I know).
You have a WSXGA+ screen. (1680 by 1050) Other available screen resolutions: WXGA (1366 x 768) WUXGA (1920 x 1200) |

Re: Highest Screen Resolution for Dell8600
Unlike desktop computers, I don't think laptop computers can be upgraded to a higher resolution screen. I think you are stuck with that resoltion as long as you have that laptop. I recently custom ordered a HP laptop, zv5000, and I got it with the optional 1900x1200 (something like that) screen. So I know that no overlap resolutions are available on laptops, but you need to order it or buy it that way.

Re: Highest Screen Resolution for Dell8600
You can buy replacement screens, both from Dell and from third party vendors. They are rather expensive though, and you'd probably want to have someone else install it as it's not that trivial.

Re: Highest Screen Resolution for Dell8600
If the laptop's screen doesnt support it you can add an external monitor that will right?

Re: Highest Screen Resolution for Dell8600
That's what I did. I just connect up a Dell 17" LCD to my 8600 and run the dual monitors.

K ty for the information guys
And I can add another monitor that goes up to 1900 x 1200 for sure, so it looks like that's the route I'll be taking. |
