Not betting the nuts...Is this common anywhere else?
Here in FL, we have this ridiculous state law limiting bets to $2 so I rarely play at the casinos here. However, with no power due to Wilma, i made the trip out to the casino this weekend.
The play is atrocious. But the weird thing to me was that on the river, players with the nuts often throw in the bet and show their hand before they're called. They seem to think it's sporting of them to just show rather than try to win the extra bet. I saw it at two different tables over the weekend here. At one point I flopped the nut flush and someone was betting into me. I asked him, "did you flop it?" meaning a flush. He says, "yes." So I raised him, and we capped every street. When i showed my nut flush to beat his Q high, he got really pissed off, and someone else at the table agreed with him that I shouldn't have kept betting. I've never seen anything this stupid. Why the hell are these people playing poker? Is this kind of crap common anywhere else? |

Maybe it's common among some elderly, but I know a room filled with elderly (me amongst 'em) who regulary bust the young guns dancin' in lookin' for an easy score. We laugh a lot, rag each other unmercifully and have a great time. But when the cards are dealt, it's nut kickin' time. Checkin' it down is practically non-existent. HU means no limit on the raises and if you let your stack get low and can't take full advantage of the nut-whatever you're holding, you're gonna' hear about it. OK, I'll put away my AARP card now. |

It happens up here in Colorado as well, where we have a $5 limit. Basically, sometimes the "good old guys" get together and want to be friendly and jovial, getting free drinks while they grind away hoping for a bad beat jackpot. I imagine this kind of behavior drastically drops as the limits go up.
