pumping a draw

Most of the players at the table were too loose and many were call stations. What I'm mainly wondering about is my flop and river play. I think I wussed out on the river, but with that many people in on a 4-flush board, I couldn't help but think they were looking for a boat.

I think my fear of the boat on the river came from the fact that most of these players were very passive on the flop. The fact that they all got aggressive on the flop kinda forced me to think that way by the river.

A lot of you are saying bet the river, I'm just curious for some reasoning behing that. What would you possibly put the other passive players on that I would be ahead of? A weaker diamond? I was pretty sure the guy on my left hit his flush on the turn as well, so I figured he had the K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] or maybe the Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] But the other two in the hand I just couldn't think to myself that they would be in with a small flush.

Passive players generally won't pump a set on the flop. They tend to like to 'wake up' on the turn with them. Much less pump it when facing more aggression back at them on a monotone board on the flop. They fear monsters. If they bet this flop with a set, get raised, they are in their shell pretty much until showdown. Especially when their set is about the 20th nut. The only real value betting/raising they do is with the nuts, or near nuts.

In this case, I think someone flopped a flush. You're read that they're all passives may be off.

You have to bet this river. You have a very strong flush, and I certainly can see K, Q, J or even T sticking around to the river here. If you're up against the straight flush, they would have capped the turn. I have no idea with all the previous action that anyone in front of you would have tried to CR you on the river if they indeed filled up. I think you have to bet and let them convince you you're behind otherwise. Checking through this river is easily a 2-3 BB mistake, which can't be ignored. Seeing monsters methinks.
