Default So who wants a free Card Player subscription?

Thank you BoDog even though I've never played on your site!

Your subscription information has been confirmed and sent to Card Player
Magazine. Your first issue should arrive in your mailbox in JANUARY.

While you wait for your first issue, sharpen your skill in the Bodog Poker Room today.

Dont be thanking them.... they dont mind putting out the money for your subscription if it means having your email and home addy... this info is gold for them.

It doesn't cost them a dime. CardPlayer needs readers, its a promotion tied into Bodog's advertising.

If cardplayer needed to increase circulation numbers so badly wouldnt they just put the free subsription offer on their own site and/or offer this through a whole bunch of other cardrooms? I would think that bodogs is picking up at least part of the bill for this...no?

Ahh... great question CubsWin (for a minute there I thought you were Clark, the Avatar confused me!). The best way for me to describe this is an advertising bait and switch. Free subscriptions are different from "gift with purchase" subscriptions. In order to increase ad revenue a magazine needs to increase "paid" circulation... controlled (free) circulation cannot be accuratly tracked or audited, plus there is no guarentee the magazine is being placed in the hands of qualified readers. Gift with purchase is a sollution to make sure the reader is qualified, while being counted as a paid subscriber. To qualify as such the reader has to (a)opt-in and (b)purchase something that is $1 greater than the price of a normal subscription.

I hope this better explains the shady side of my business

a simpler possible explanation is they use/sell your contact info for direct marketing

It's a mini subscription, I think about 3-4 months (7-8 issues). they ran a similar promo late last year, as did pokerroom. I have the offers running back to back giving me free mags until end of june.
