Re: Biggest differences between PLO8 and Limit?
The main difference is that in pot-limit O8, you are able to bet the full amount in the pot, whereas in limit, the betting structure is fixed (ie, you are limited in the amount you can bet).
Hope this helps!!! |

Re: Biggest differences between PLO8 and Limit?
Um, thanks, but I already know that. What I meant was; what strategies should I employ in one game that would not work in the other?

Re: Biggest differences between PLO8 and Limit?
For one - scooping or 3/4s is even more important.
in limit - since you will get a lot of dead money you can still do okay halfing some pots. in PL - most of the split pots, you can both lose out to the rake. |

Re: Biggest differences between PLO8 and Limit?
My first laugh of the day. I really was LOL.
Reminds me of when Jesse May was asked the difference between something like 2/4 and 200/400, and he said, "In 200/400, you play with the green and black chips." When pressed, he went on to explain again and again the difference in chip denominations. Yanno you are getting jaded when a book like Shut Up and Deal starts becoming more and more like real life, and comic relief, rather than an exciting novel. I remember when Rounders came out, and my Mom watched it, then shuddered and said she hated it, it was too much like real poker. Obviously not the over-the-top scenes, but the lifestyle. She'd seen too much of it dealing for ten years. Felicia |

Re: Biggest differences between PLO8 and Limit?
You will often have to muck a made nut low in pot limit if you do not also have a reasonable high hand. You can't be calling pot sized bets if there is a chance you are getting quartered.

Re: Biggest differences between PLO8 and Limit?
Also, In PLO8 you will be seeing more flops than in limit.
I think the numbers around here show that solid/aggressive play in limit should be to see something around 22% of the flops while PLO8 will see around 33%. Dave |

Re: Biggest differences between PLO8 and Limit?
Very helpful info. I have been thinking about making the switch to PL from limit recently and will take your advice into consideration

Re: Biggest differences between PLO8 and Limit?
The difference between LO8 and PLO8 that I have seen so far is captured in 1 word: "and"
In limit, it's fine to have half the hand locked or drawing to it, and even if it gets counterfeited, you're okay. In PL, you want a piece of the flop *and* something else to fall back on if you're going to get a lot of money in there. Redraws to a low, a flush, counterfiet protection, etc. are much more crucial. |
