Default 50-100 - River battle

First time in the 50-100 game at Great Blue Heron Casino, most of the pros are away in Vegas, so the game is good, full of rich Toronto folk looking to gamble, with maybe 2-3 other working pros. I'm the youngest player in this game by about 5 years, and after the second youngest, by about 15.

UTG, a very tough, good player, the other young guy at the table, and he's been winning lots of pots.

An earlier hand, he raised UTG, I 3-bet with Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], he calls. Heads up.

2 to the flop (7.5 SB): Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

He checks, I bet, he calls.

2 to the turn (4.75 BB): (Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]) 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

He checks, I check. I think he's got a PP below Queens, AK, and hopefully I can represent an AK type hand and take the free card.

2 to the river (4.75 BB): (Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]) 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

He bets, I raise, he calls and my hand is good.

Now, this is one of a few fancy plays I made - stop and gos, slowplayed top two pair until the river, in order to assert myself as not a young kid to be pushed off pots, so UTG this player knows I can get fancy, so with that in mind, please critique my river play on this hand:

The previous hand, I had 3-bet a tilted MP raiser to my right (who had previously raised with Q9s, but I don't know if many people had noticed he was on tilt) with ATo. It turns out he had AKo (oops) but we chopped. Some eyebrows are raised.

UTG, the tough player from the first hand, raises UTG, tilted player cold-calls, I 3-bet with K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 2 call 3 cold (so much for respect), UTG calls, tilty calls.

5 to the flop (15 SB): A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

UTG checks, MP checks, I bet, folded to UTG who raises, MP folds, I call (getting 18-1).

2 to the turn (9 BB): (A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img])J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

UTG checks, I check.

2 to the river (9 BB): (A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]) K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

UTG bets, I raise, he hesitates for a second, "okey, AK AK we chop we chop", in a thick Asian accent. He 3-bets, I 4-bet, He 5-bets. I get a sinking feeling as I call.

I haven't played in a live poker game in a long time, but this sounds like quads to me. I would have just called.

Do you think someone who has flopped quads would check-raise the flop? Thats pretty aggressive even if he is certain his opponent will call. JJ seems right.

"okey, AK AK we chop we chop" . . . He 3-bets, . . ."

Guy who think they are chopping don't raise without the nuts.

I disagree. They definitely can always beat the hand they are supposedly chopping with. But its not necessary that they have the nuts.

Yes, you're right, better than A-K, not necessarily the nuts though.

You stopped too soon.

He's doesn't have AA. He'd have capped preflop, and certainly wouldn't shut out the remaining player and risk losing your action by checkraising the flop.

He doesn't have 99 for the same postflop reason he doesn't have AA.

But given that he may think you are full of it, he definitely would checkraise the flop with a flush draw, or with pocket jacks.

I'd raise at least one more time for sure. If he 7-bets, then I may call.

Yeah, I think so. Especially since the Jh and Kh are accounted for, making something like KhQh, QhJh, etc pretty unlikely for UTG. He'd have gotten (for a "solid" player) pretty out of line preflop to really have either a flush, or say something like 9's full. Definitely possible, but it smells more like jacks.

JJ sounds about right. I think Clark hit the OCN (Oh Crap Number) pretty well too at 7 Bets. Although I'd be tempted to go one more round with a little alcohol in me.
