2 $5/$10 Hands
Here are 2 hands from today I'd like some guidance on
Blinds are $5/$10 NL #1) The table is aggressive and raises are getting multiple callers so I limp UTG with AA in order to limp reraise. MP limps, both blinds play and nobody raises The pot is $40. The flop comes J44. Checked to me and I bet $40. MP folds but now the SB check raises to $80. BB folds. Not many people would check raise there with a 4. At least not yet. Hes seems to be pretty good and hasnt done anything crazy.. I started the hand with $1000 and he has me covered. I call. The pot is now $200. The turn is a queen. He bets $60. I still feel pretty good about my hand, but I didnt have the courage to raise him. I called again. The pot is $320. The river is another 4. He bets $80. Do you raise here? If so, how much? Shoudl I have done something differently earlier? Hand #2) MP limps, I limp on the button with 66. Both blinds play. The pot is $40. The flop is JKJ. Its checked to me and I bet $40 trying to steal it. The SB who is a rock calls. We're heads up. Im pretty sure she has a jack and Im done with this hand. The pot is $120. The turn is an 8. Check/check Pot still $120. The river is another king. She bets $50. I rarely bluff but this looks like a great shot to bluff and represent having a king. I raise to $250. What do you think? |

Re: 2 $5/$10 Hands
hand 1. I just call the river.with the severe underbets, villain either has a monster or a very marginal hand that you beat.
If you raise the river, he won't call with the marginal hand but might try to bluff you with a reraise and he is definitely reraising with the monster. Why go through the trouble? I just call the river. hand 2. This bluff is heavily dependent on your image at the table. |

Re: 2 $5/$10 Hands
Hand 1:
Check/raise is a pretty common move if he has a J there. I think you should raise the river to 250. Hand 2: He's a rock and called your flop bet. I don't want to bluff the river as I think he has a K. |

Re: 2 $5/$10 Hands
tbach, in hand 2, the OP's whole point is that villain is such a rock, he wouldn't call his flop bet with just a K and that a call indicates a J.

Re: 2 $5/$10 Hands
Good point. Also, the 50 on the river looks like a blocking bet to me. If you wanted to bluff I would make it 300. TY for pointing that out to me amoeba.
Edit- I think that a rock would raise a J on the flop because it's a vulnerable hand, don't you? Also, the 50 could be a value bet. |

Re: 2 $5/$10 Hands
I agree with amoeba.
In hand 1, I just call the river. Unless you are certain he will not reraise without the nuts. Being bluffed out of this pot would be a huge mistake. In hand 2, I think a raise here is a great play, assuming you don't have a LAG table image. |

Re: 2 $5/$10 Hands
Hand 1- Seems standard. Nit-picking, but I underbet the pot (~$30) because I'm way ahead/behind
Hand 2- Great oppurtunity if the conditions are right. They seem to be. |

Re: 2 $5/$10 Hands
1. Calling looks best.
2. Raising 150 to 200 will look like you want a call and save you money (as oppossed to raising more) when you are called or reraised. |

Re: 2 $5/$10 Hands
Hand #1: Calling down seems clearly correct. He won't fold a better hand, he's not going to pay you off with a worse hand, and he's got at best two outs to improve.
Hand #2: Right time for a bluff. |

Re: 2 $5/$10 Hands
Cool, it sounds like I played them pretty well. I did just flat call the river in hand #1. I really thought I had the winner though.
Unfortunately I lost them both. Hand #1 He had 42 Hand #2 She had KJ. Not just a king or jack but both. Damn! I do have a very tight image and rarely bluff. I definatley hadnt been caught bluffint at this table so I though it would work but obviously it wont work against KJ. |
