Would you call??
play .25/.50 NL. 5 handed and i raise to 1.5 with A8 suited as BB and limping small blind calls. The small blind player is very aggressive post flop. flop comes A Q 8 rainbow. he checks and i bet 3 and he calls. Turn is 6 and he checks and i bet 5 and he calls. Riv is 4 and he checks and i bet 8, he thinks and goes all in for 24 more. I call, he has AQ, I was doomed from beginning. Anyone think i played it bad and anything else i could have done?

Re: Would you call??
Depends on your read on the guy, but to tell you the truth, I probably would have played it the same way.

Re: Would you call??
I understand your play. He checked & called the flop and turn. Once he checked the river, I would have suspected something was up. I probably would have checked the river behind him.

Re: Would you call??
I guess i have some realizing to do but theres no way i would ever be checking thru on the river here. For OP i would reccomend not posting the results as it might skew the responses because i cant see how the majority of people here really would believe in a 5 handed .25/50 game to check thru with two pair on the river. You might get better responses without posting final hand results but if it was me im playing it the same way and just like someone earlier said thats just one of those hands.

[ QUOTE ]
The small blind player is very aggressive post flop [/ QUOTE ] This is the reason checking through the river is correct. A very agressive post flop player is either on a missed draw (won't call your bet) or a monster (situation we have here). Never make bets that cannot make you money. |

Re: Would you call??
Probably no real way to avoid losing money on this hand. I have limped with AQ before and nailed people as well and they were pretty good players. These hands just happen sometimes in poker.

Re: Would you call??
hindsight is 20/20 but I say check through the river... a "very agressive postflop" player is just calling you. That's standard rope-a-dope for us maniacs.

Plus, if that's your eval of him, he seemed to expect from the beginning that you would lead out and you did. He let your aggression make money for him. Maybe you should also be considering what others' perceptions of your game are. I also agree w/ smoore's second point. Considering that you haven't been value betting, but betting pot or near-pot, your river bet is only going to be called by someone who has you beat. |

[ QUOTE ] play .25/.50 NL. 5 handed [/ QUOTE ] ah hah. [/ QUOTE ] What does that mean? It doesn't mean play money does it? I assumed it meant playing .25/.50. Who would play only .25/.50 when it's not even real money? |
