Moving up to 10/20 or adding another 5/10 table?
Im quite new at SH and played some 5/10 this month strictly one-tabling because im not too good at handling multiple SH tables (I seem to play looser with more tables and my laptop-monitor has only a resolution of 1024*768 so i have always overlap).
I did reasonably well so far being at about 4BB/100 after 5k hands with playing mostly tight/passive (my postflop AF worries me a bit, is only around 1) but i catch so many bluffs that im still profitable. Id like to either add a second table of 5/10 or move up to 10/20, so i tested yesterday first twotabling 5/10 with very bad results (-50BB in 2h) and then today onetabling 10/20 with good results (+40BB in about 5h). I now wonder what would be best to do next, learn multitabling at 5/10 (and maybe buy a new computer and monitor to avoid overlap) because i have to learn it sometimes anyway or just move up to 10/20 because the games seem to be even looser than 5/10 (bluffraising the turn with just overcards seems to be standard play of some people there). I think im not ready for twotabling 10/20 so far because this could turn out really bad for my br. Or do you think i should first get a bigger sample-size with onetabling 5/10? Any suggestions? |

Re: Moving up to 10/20 or adding another 5/10 table?
I don't know much about the 10/20 game, but it seems to be strictly a personal preference. If you don't like multitasking and playing multiple tables...don't. I find that my BB/100 drops almost 0.5 BB/100 when I play 3 tables, BUT it's still more profitable for me to play 3 tables giving away 1.5BB/100, because I still make 3.5 BB/100.
That being said when I move to 4 tables I find I can't keep up. |

Re: Moving up to 10/20 or adding another 5/10 table?
Around 20K, I'm not at my home computer right now to check poker tracker. I think you or someone else asked me about 4BB/100 which has been my overall win rate at 5/10 and I made that post from my home computer.
4 Tabling I only have 500 hands, but my BB/100 was -.5 or so..again not at my home computer...regardless it was a MASSIVE drop, because I get lost... |

Re: Moving up to 10/20 or adding another 5/10 table?
First I'd suggest playing more 5/10. No offense, but 4 bb/100 is really high and a win rate that not many people can get. Also 5k hands is just about meaningless.
You should definitely learn to feel comfortable multitabling. The ability to multitable is alrgely what makes online poker so lucrative. Also, if playing 10/20 could put your bankroll in danger than its a really bad idea because there can be some vicious swings. So all in all stick with 5/10 for a while. Start playing 2/3 tables. Get a feel for the swings that will come (and be much bigger) when you eventually do move up. Good luck. |

Re: Moving up to 10/20 or adding another 5/10 table?
Thanks for he advice!
I dont think playing one table 10/20 would put my br in danger but playing at the higher limit and twotabling can surely do. I have no problems playing two or three tables at full tables, but SH seems to be something else. And i would for sure set some stop loss in either way and step back to one 5/10 table if im doing badly. Another idea would be to go to the 1/2 tables and do there excessive multitabling to learn that... |

Re: Moving up to 10/20 or adding another 5/10 table?
Hi Chessmaster
A word of advice from one chessmaster to another. Don't be in a hurry to move up to 10-20. Spend some more time at 5-10, gather experience, work on your aggression and make sure you have a 500BB bankroll before you commit to 10-20. 10-20 is a great game but you have to be ready for it. I spent over a year playing 5-10 before making the move. Perhaps that was too long but I'm not really a gambler! Gazza |

Re: Moving up to 10/20 or adding another 5/10 table?
I know up moving too fast can be very expensive...
Though what ive seen so far in the Party 10/20 games doesnt make me feel i could lose there in the long run. And especially the very agressive style of the players there seems to fit quite nice for my rather passive approach, because my big hands are paid off extremeley well so far. I played some more 10/20 and am currently at +75 BB after about 730 hands. I know this is an unrealistic winrate to maintain, but do you think it can hurt much to keep test-playing at 10/20 with a stoploss of say +25 BB and only then move down again to 5/10? I could do then a next shoot at 10/20 after proving to be successful at the lower limit after a month or so. @Gazza: Nice to hear from a chessplayer who also plays poker. Maybe we can have a game of chess sometime... |

Re: Moving up to 10/20 or adding another 5/10 table?
100% agree with Evan. I'd definitely say get more time in on 5 /10. At least another 20k hands. You have yet to experience the 100 bb downswing that will shatter your ego, which if you play regularly enough, you may experience once every 2 weeks. I have this happen about once a week now, with a 200 bb thrown in once a month or so. Definitely will rattle you.
