A Harmless Prank?

I hate my roommate. He's messy and pisses me off on a daily basis.

I want to play a prank on him that is mean, but one that I can brush off as a friendly joke that two friends would play on each other.

Ideas?

Too obvious.

But, if you're willing to spend some money, buy a pair of shoes identical to the ones he owns. Then, replace his right shoe with the new bought left shoe. That way, he'll have two left shoes but it'll take him time to figure out what's going on.
