this was at a casino here, near chicago....cash, 500 NL table. I had $1000 in front of me. i, yoolykeme am on the button.... blinds are 5 and 10 3rd seat raises to 60 everyone folds. yoolykeme calls flop comes a, 10, 6, off-suit 3rd seat checks yoolykeme bets 100 3rd seat raises to 300 yoolykeme calls 3rd seat cheks blind turn comes 7 yoolykeme goes all-in 3rd seat calls river comes q yoolykeme shows a,10 3rd seat shows a, a i lose... should i have either put him on AA pre-flop, or should i just not have been in the hand to begin with... ive been playing for about 6 years, and for some reason, this is bothering me.... thx |

Calling a 6x BB raise with A10 is just bad poker. Unless you knew from previous plays this guys raises meant nothing.

Hey, welcome to the forums!
First off, you'll have better luck if you post in a specific forum, ie) small stakes no limit for NL hands, or B&M for live games, etc. As for the hand(and take this for what it's worth as I play mainly limit and generally suck at NL) Fold preflop. From my understanding playing NL against that type of raise you are in a clear raise-or-fold situation. However, assuming you don't fold, it's absurd to put a guy on AA preflop for a 6x BB raise, which may or may not be common but certainly can't give you that specific information. I'll likely checkraise this flop - the problem is since I hit the board so hard I'm doing my best to get all-in, which is why I fold this pf, because I can't tell AA from AK here. good luck. Surf |

Since you called preflop, I should also point out that after the flop I would have a hard time laying this hand down.

I agree with everyone else. Fold preflop. Once you've seen the flop I don't think i can get away from this hand.

your hand is a perfect example of why calling raises with weak hands is troublesome, especially in NL. as everyone else said, top two is a monster; but that flop is the reason why you don't call in the first place.

I don't think calling raises with weak hands is bad because you flop two pair and lose to a set. -Michael |
