B&M: Telling Mr. Helpful to shut up
I play a weekly tournament that is fulled to the brim with guys who think they are poker gods among men. It's kinda funny, and some of the stupid things I overhear there are the funniest around.
A regular there that I've played against several times has on numerous times f'ed up a game because of his comments. On one occasion he encouraged a call against an all-in and I watched him almost get punched. He's arrogant and has something to say about any cards you show. In the tourny last night his comments finally affected me directly. I was all in and itching for a call, and when the betting came around to him, he folds. The player next to him, a loose player I was hoping would call...asks me what I have. Mr. Here-let-me-help pipes up with "Oh Sharon hasn't bet all night, and I know her....she doesn't raise unless shes got the goods!". I thought I handled the situation nicely through my blinding rage, but this twerp needs to be shut up. Any suggestions from experienced 2+2ers? I would like to be neutral about it and all I can think of os threats. lol. This needs to stop. Thanks for reading. |

Call the floorman? He's breaking the rules - one player to a hand.

Sounds like a home game.

Sounds like a home game. [/ QUOTE ] Ehh, not really. It's an underground thing poker players in the area spread by word of mouth. It has gained a lot of popularity and if we had the room (we currently meet & play in a friendly local bar) we could expand quite a bit. Good people, good drinks, and a loudmouth who can't stop giving poker advice. |

Unfortunately it's not at a casino, otherwise I would. It's more of an underground tourney and the dude who runs it probably wouldn't do anything about it, as it isn't cheating, so on.

Oh, I see. Then I'd pour my drink over his head every time he did this. I don't believe in threats, I'd rather just do it.

[/ QUOTE ] There are probably other people there who feel the same way about this guy. You should bring it up with the organizer, not because the guy is an ass, but because the guy could put off new people and limit the fun and scope of the tourney. |

My only qualm with doing this is I believe Mr. Helpful is good friends with the organizer, and I refuse to cause unneccesary b.s. I would much rather wait for him to do it again and say something directly to him. |

How about asking around to the other players and seeing if any of them feel the way that you do? With other people behind you, it won't look like it is just you with a vendetta and the guy will have to do something about it or else lose a bunch of players. btw - The organizer dude probably knows his friend is a jerk, but lets it slide as "that is just how he is". When he sees that it affects the game, he will do something about it. |

I agree
I wouldn't wait until it happened to you to do this. YOu have to blow up about it, show how much are pissed, tell him he is out of line and to shut the hell up when he is not in the hand. I saw this happen to a guy who honestly did know what he was doing was out of line (he just liked impressing people with his knowledge). He didn't like being made an ass of and called out on his action or the uneasy atmosphere that was created and shut up for that night. Plus I think others would back you.
