Stealing against Phil Hellmuth in WSOP
WSOP ME second level with 50/100 blinds. All fold to me
and I open raise to 300 on button with K3clubs. Small blind calls and big blind folds. We both have around 10000 in chips. Small blind is Phil Hellmuth and he had arrived at table 10 minutes earlier in his customary late manner. I have no read on Phil aside from what I have heard about him. Last time I played against him was 15 years ago in a limit game at the Commerce Club. Flop comes 4c 4s 7h. I bet 400 and Phil calls Turn 4c 4s 7h 8s. Phil checks and I bet 800. He calls. River 4c 4s 7h 8s 2h Phil checks. What is my play? Comments appreciated. Bruce |

Re: Stealing against Phil Hellmuth in WSOP
You could push.
He'd know you were stealing it, but I don't think he'd call. He'd have to risk his entire life on the hand. against anyone else, this idea sucks, but PH likes to laydown hands. 100% sure he won't call w/o trips or better. 90% sure he'll need the straight or better to call If you don't think he has the goods a push should work. |

Re: Stealing against Phil Hellmuth in WSOP
I had only played with him for 10 minutes. I was unaware
at the time of this hand how weak tight he is initially. The only information I had readily available was that my opponent was Phil Hellmuth. And of course Phil informed everyone at the table that he had won 9 bracelets and won the big one once. I had to make an intelligent decision based on his reputation and what I had observed in the previous 10 minutes. Bruce |

Re: Stealing against Phil Hellmuth in WSOP
I fire a third barrel cause he probably has A-x with the x not being paired. Bet strong here, and hope he folds. He's Phil Hellmuth, he hates losing chips. If he calls with A high or a pair good for him.

Re: Stealing against Phil Hellmuth in WSOP
It doesn't look like he's going to let go of the best hand.
If your standard bet is 1/2 the pot for most rounds ATF, then it would be difficult to bet more here and be credible. I think a 4 or 8 bets 1/2 the pot and I think he'll look u up. |
