extracting the most.
I often have a problem extracting the max when i flop a big hand. The hand below is obviously a monster that rarely comes along- but i would like to hear opinions on how you would play it.
50+5 multi with rebuys and add ons. hero has 2075 in chips utg +1 - 1015 utg +2 - 975 mp - 2010 BB - 1995 blinds are 10/15 Utg+1, utg+2, mp all limp hero limps with 88 sb folds, bb checks. Flop comes 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] pot T75 BB bets out T30 Utg+1 and utg+2 call- mp folds. smooth call/small raise/decent raise? |

Re: extracting the most.
Small raise to 75.. It won't drive them out, but it'll probably keep them around to chase their draws.
Similar 100-150 bet on the turn as well. Hopefully someone makes their flush or straight. |

so the real question
so thats the simple answer i expected. What do you do if the flop was 9 8 4 with two spades in that same scenario?

Re: so the real question
Raise more, make it 150.. Make them pay to draw. Also they are more likely to call with a 9 on that board.

Re: so the real question
big raise, make them pay a bad price for their likely draw, and hey maybe they'll push with 2 pair or something

You're just hoping for someone to make a terrible play. You're better off letting him make his hand or atleast make a bluff at it when he misses. |

Re: extracting the most.
I'd smooth call the flop.
Any bet you make is either going to be too big and scare people out, or too small and look like a pot builder (an 8). If you raise ATF, you are likely to get checked to on the turn (since no one can have an 8). Chances are BB who has the big stack anyhow, is going to put another probe bet in on the turn. |

Re: extracting the most.
you have quads, slowplay this and call everything down and raise the river whatever amt you think they will call.

Re: extracting the most.
The problem is that this is a drawing board- and you get little to nothing on the river if they miss. I think the target raise on the flop or turn should be what you think they will put in with a draw.

Re: extracting the most.
Call.
You have postion so you can worry about more money after the next card. You want someone to make a full house/straight/ or flush on the turn so they have a hand worth losing their stack on. If the turn is a blank, I'd wait in the weeds there too, as you really need someone to make a good second best hand. Raising the flop to charge draws is stupid, you want the draws the come and hit. Raising to build a big pot is shooting too early, you want someone to make a hand worth betting, and on this type of flop many cards make many hands on the turn, and betting on the flop may get them to fold. There aren't too many hands it pays to play very slowly, but flopped quads on the button is one of them. Regards, Woodguy |
