Check out TrendMicro.com if you just want to scan your computer for an existing virus. They have a free online virus scan called "Housecall" that will scan your computer without actually needing to download a software program. Most current anti-virus software programs really tax your system and will slow down an older computer. The Housecall tool can be extremely useful if you have an older laptop or desktop and don't want to bog it down. The downside is that it doesn't monitor your system in real-time and will only detect a virus when you go online and manually initiate a scan.
