Default Various stories from TT\'s adventures at the Commerce - Chop Chop

Each day during my recent working vacation to LA, I experienced a horrible warping of the chopping rule at the Commerce Casino. As an example the entire table folds to the button who limps (idiot) small and the small blind folds normally we have ourselves a heads up hand right? Well commonly at the Commerce the big blind will turn to the button and say "we chop?" and the dealers always allow this. Ok... let’s make it more extreme so I can show you how bad it was. MP2 limps, table folds to the big blind... they chop. Or how about the time when the CO open raised, and the dealer allowed him to chop with the big blind... as long as he called the CO's raise first so the cameras wouldn't catch it.

I befriended a few of the staff members while I was there, so I talked about this with Kim and Johnny who work at the high limit podium (it's really middle limit, but that’s beside the point). Both of them said it was against the rules and was surprised to hear that the dealers were freely allowing this to occur. Johnny said he would discuss it during the next day’s staff meeting, but I doubt that ever occurred because I saw it happen again on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

I would assume this has become such a part of the Commerce culture that the rules will never be enforced. This is unfortunate because it’s a perfect opportunity for colluders to put the squeeze play on a table but chop when they have nobody in the middle. Sad, isn't it?

Dude, if there are any nits there, like in vegas, just do what I do...

Kick them in the nuts!

Those chopping procedures are insane, even for cali. I used to live in cali, hell, I used to be "dave in cali" and I never saw chit that crazy before. Play the damn hand or chop the BLINDS already, there isn't anything "inbetween."

The nits are not the ones who do stuff like this, they are the ones who get all riled up by it.

Right. Whoever would get "riled up" by me not participating that strange chop--that's the person I look forward to irritating.

this happens from time to time where i plays, but not as extreme as your cases.

EP limper, folded to me in the SB, I fold, BB raises, EP folds, we all get our money back.

the unwritten rule at the commerce is that if there are only two bets before the flop, the players may chop. if there are three or more bets, there is no chopping, because then it is more likely that someone laid down a playable hand.

your point about collusion is paranoid. since you didn't want to play your hand, why do you care?

Actually I wasn't really that bothered by it, but I was surprised to see it so I asked about the rule to the floor during some down time as we were all shooting the [censored]. They were both honestly surprised to learn this was occuring... so as I said in my post it's not officially allowed at Commerce by management but it is tolerated and even encouraged by the dealers.

As for collusion, not that I was afraid it would happen to me (the donks I played against wouldn't know how to take advantage of it if they tried), it was that this could theoretically occur rather easily and affords potential colluders a "back door" if they cannot find someone to trap in between themselves. If it wasn't a concern then I'm sure every card room across the nation would allow this... see my point?

No they weren't, they just played better poker that hand than you.

What are you talking about? I really wonder when poker players here use this kind of illogic. You do understand that colluders split up the profits later, right?
