Braves vs Astros
Braves try a squeeze bunt. Giles foul tips a bunt off the plate, catcher gloves it and tags Furcal coming to the plate. Ump rules no play since the ball was foul. Justice: "If he had been called out it would have been detrimental to the Braves." |

He gets a free pass from me for the game/series winning HR in the World Series in 1995. His commentating is ...errr subpar to say the least, though.

[ QUOTE ]
Giles foul tips a bunt off the plate, catcher gloves it and tags Furcal coming to the plate. Ump rules no play since the ball was foul. [/ QUOTE ] I always thought the plate was fair territory. If you look at a plate it is a square with a triangle at the bottom. The foul lines are drawn from where the triangle meets the square, so they extend down to the point of the triangle making the whole plate fair. Have I always been wrong? rJ |

No, you're right. it's one of the most often missed calls in the game.

I suspect it grazed the batter, but I didn't see it closely enough to say for sure.

I was watching. It struck the batter while he was still in the batter's box. Unfortunately, the umps properly called it a foul ball.
