all in on a draw?
doyle why'd you do it
Rod Hurlbut raised to 60k from under the gun and Doyle Brunson called from the small blind. The flop came 3sKdJd, Hurlbut bet 100k, Brunson raised to 300k total, and Hurlbut called all in for 150k. The players turned up: Rod Hurlbut AhKh Doyle Brunson QdTd Brunson was a 53% favorite with his open-ended straight flush draw versus Hurlbut with top pair. The turn came the 9h, giving Brunson a straight and Hurlbut was drawing dead. Hurlbut went home in 20th place with $64,400. doil risked his tourney life with queen high. plz explain. great players always say never put your chips in on the draw. thx |

Re: all in on a draw?
You've gotta be kidding, right?
Doyle's only a slight underdog to top set. |

Re: all in on a draw?
If your not willing to play a str8 flush draw aggressively like this you probably shouldn't play tourneys......

Re: all in on a draw?
First of all, Doyle had over 1 mil in chips, so he wasn't all in.
He probably figured that the short stacked guy was pushing all-in with a top pair (or at best a flopped set if he was really lucky). Doyle had a great hand and was a favorite to win in most cases. I'm no pro, but I love to put my money in when I'm a favorite to win. In the long run it pays off. |

Re: all in on a draw?
I'd also put my money in, but I don't like checkraising in that situation. Brunson should lead out on that flop I think.

Semi-bluff (even though he was ahead here) |
