Default Noob post; How do you play a missed re-raised pf AK on the flop?

Questions simple. Someone raises the standard amount, and you re-raise with AK. They call, the flop comes. Total rags. The question is now, what do I do?

Example hand to work with:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed) converter

UTG+1 ($49.25)
UTG+2 ($48.40)
MP1 ($4.50)
MP2 ($98.50)
Hero ($50)
CO ($49.50)
Button ($51.75)
SB ($18.30)
BB ($45.55)
UTG ($62.65)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
UTG raises to $1, 4 folds, Hero raises to $4, 2 folds, SB (poster) calls $3.75, 1 fold, UTG calls $3.

Flop: ($12.50) 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $8, SB folds, UTG folds.

Final Pot: $20.50

As you can see here, I had position, but what if I was out of position? Do I take a stab? Check and see? Whats a good line here?

I generally only reraise AK in position, so that I can take a free card if I miss and get called on the flop. There is absolutely nothing wrong with coldcalling OOP and then check/folding if you miss.

Btw, it's good to see you on the SSNL forum Arturius. I hope you stick around.

My standard play after a reraise is the continuation bet with or without position. It only needs to take the pot down more than 50% to make it a profitable play.

Thanks Mal, interesting to see I have a reputation, scary :P

While I'm hear, I'll ask a few more quirke questions:

1) Whats a continuation bet? Just a pot or 2/3 pot bet after a previous raise was called?
2) What do I do with a hand like 99 or KQs with one limper, me in the CO preflop? Re-raise, or just limp after?

Limp. Call raise up to 5-10% of smallest stack. Hit set. Push in.

I always seem to forget the hit set part. I suck at flopping sets.

Call raises as long as they are less than 5% of the smallest stack between you and the raiser, consider calling them if they are between 5-10%, don't call if they are over 10%. Hit your set, get the money in, don't hit your set, fold. Actually they are the easiest to play. If its been limped to you i'd limp with them...if it's folded to you in late position i'll raise with them.

I would point out that one should eventually graduate from this hit set or fold mentality.

right but noobs shouldn't. Eventually once you know the player and the board texture you can play differently, but it's a great way for noobs to get in trouble.
