Do you get $1 chips for a 3/6 game at a casino?
I'm looking to hit up a casino for some 3/6. Do they just give you a whole bunch of $1 chips, or is it a mix of $2, $5 etc. If it's a mix what kind of mix of different chips should I get? Also, I'm assuming a 30BB buy in or $180-$200 is standard in this kinda game? Should I take the chips out of the rack or leave them in there? I was watching limit on Live at the Bike and it seemed like most players just left the chips in the rack.

It is usually either all 1$ chips. or $1 and $2 or $1 and $5.
I only buy in for $100 at games 5-10 and lower. I am prepared to re-buy if necessary. Never-ever needed to commit more that $200. |

[/ QUOTE ] Buy at least a rack of $1 chips (make sure you have money to buy more if your stacks dip lower than about $60), take them out of the rack, and keep them in 20 chip stacks (this is how they are racked). When you bet, take a stack of chips and cut off the proper amount (3, 6, etc)- don't fumble around and count the chips individually. |

Re: Do you get $1 chips for a 3/6 game at a casino?
Card rooms in KC seem to favor $1 chips almost exclusively. It seemed that way in Reno last time I went too, but can't tell you about anywhere else. Please don't be the guy who plays out of the rack. For one thing, a rack is irritating, for another, lots of cardrooms have rules about what can and cannot be on the table if a bad beat jackpot is awarded. (Some BS about hiding cards under items where the security camera can't pick it up.) You'd really be feeling the love if your rack on the table negated a $10k BBJ.
Most players will buy in for about $100 at 3/6 and 4/8 but I agree, $200 is a good starting amount. |

Re: Do you get $1 chips for a 3/6 game at a casino?
Ive played 3/6 at a few casinos in so cal, san manuel, pechanga, hustler, and soboba. All used only $1 chips. Id say 100 is good enough for the first buy but have at least another 100 in your pocket.
As far as the racks, some casinos dont let you use racks, like pechanga, others let you use the racks like soboba. I like having my chips out of a rack, but if im up to around 200 in chips, it can get a little messy and crowded, at san manuel I was sitting with about 250 and it got crowded, so I stacked 200 in the rack and left 50 to play, if I got down I just pulled another stack out. San manuels racks are particulary tight, and its funny to watch people try and pull a few chips out and then see 10 of them go flying. I agree dont play out of the rack but if the casino allows it, use it to keep your chips organized. |

Any limit game, you might sit there a while, and you might have only say with $150 or less, but let's say you are up and doing well. Well then it can get crowded with all those chips. Esp if its a room with narrow table space. I have played many 3/6 tables and sometimes its almost everyone is using $1, so you win a pot, you got stacks and stacks of $1's. |

[/ QUOTE ] Any cardroom regular will bring this to your attention almost immediately. I know I always did. People were always leaving napkins on table. Whenever the BBJ was extremely high this got taken to an extreme. People were constantly telling each other to shut up whenever there were 2 aces on the board etc. Good times, good times. |

Re: Do you get $1 chips for a 3/6 game at a casino?
I like to buy in for $140 or $150 at a $3/$6 table (I like the 25xbig bet rule). But if you get that many in $1 chips, it’s cumbersome. Plus it’s true that most people sit down to these tables with $80-$100, so I hate to come in and sit down with my piles of $1’s. On the other hand, I prefer to come to the table with enough to see me through a decent amount of negative variance without having to rebuy. (Rebuying just feels psychologically negative to me.) So, what I’ve started doing is asking for $140 in chips—$60 in ones and $80 in red chips, or even $150, with $100 in red and $50 in ones. That makes the red a nice little stack. I think that worked out really well for me. Usually in a $3/$6 game, the pot is a mixture of $1’s and $5’s. Man….typing this makes me realize how much THOUGHT I’ve put into this. Strange, but true. It really makes a difference to me just in terms of how comfortable I feel at the table. I want enough chips behind me so that I can play aggressively when I want to, but I don't want to sit down with a "fortress" already pre-built in front of me.
