Re: 55 gutshot OOP
Generally, IMO, 55 is not a hand you want to raise with UTG. The goal of these small pocket pairs is to flop a set in a raised pot and win a big one. The play on the flop is completely judgemental. Would you re-raise him here if you had AA? Your reraise may push him out... but it might not. You should ask youself there questions before you reraise: Has he made this play before? Was he caught bluffing? What are his preflop standards for a raise? I think that your best play would just be to play it slower before the flop and not get yourself into a tangle.

Re: 55 gutshot OOP
Raising 55 UTG 5-handed is completely standard. It is fine to limp it, too, and could be better under certain table conditions (looseness, preflop aggression with re-raises) but raising it is definitely not bad here. Of course the outrageous flop play could be highly suspect, but it is really opponent dependent and table image dependent. Very hard to say from looking at just one HH in isolation.

Re: 55 gutshot OOP
I would play AA in the same way. He pushed and I folded.
I'm trying to get a strategy down to make it hard to read my hands. I randomly raise/open-raise any PP and suited connectors in various positions. I limp with them too but I need to mix up my play. I don't think open-raising this is bad, especially in 6-max??? I don't think there's any merit in calling. Stacks aren't deep enough, right? Either fold or try and make a play for it based on my read? And yeah, probably c/f turn if he calls. |

Re: 55 gutshot OOP
Limp/call is fine with 100bb stacks. In general, without a read, I wouldn't 3-bet over a min-raise unless you think there's a good chance of having set over set. And pushing the turn here would definitely be spewing if he called your 3-bet on the flop. It would just mean that he (wisely) decided not to blow you off your hand on the flop.

Re: 55 gutshot OOP
You wouldn't 3-bet in this hand or in any hand unless you think it's set over set?

I just think a flop min-raise against a preflop raiser is very very often a set. And if it isn't a set, then it is often one pair putting you on missed overcards. In neither case do you want to 3-bet. |

I would play AA in the same way. [/ QUOTE ] I hope not. anyways, I think you can pick much better spots to 'mix it up' than situations like this where you get minraised on relatively dry flop with a hand that is far likely to be behind with no redraws oop. |
