3 ugly hands (2 of 3)
10-20. 4 limpers, 3 of them horrible, to me in the SB with 5s3h. I risk the wrath of all the 2+2 gods and complete, BB checks. 6 to the flop for 3BBs.
Flop: Kh Qh 5h. I check, BB checks, EP bets. EP has seen every flop and is willing to bet many many many holdings here. Folded to me, I call, BB folds. 2 to the turn for 4BBs. Turn: 9c. I check, EP bets, I call. River: 3s. I check, EP bets, I, uhhh, call. |

I like the preflop fine but I'm a loose fish.
Why not checkraise the flop if you've decided to play on? |

"Why not checkraise the flop if you've decided to play on?"
I figure BB is pretty unlikely to call and if that's true, then I figure there's no reason to shower the felt with chips while out of position. Why not just play it like a way ahead/behind situation and quietly just ensure that it goes to showdown? |

Looks like you could be way ahead.

Re: 3 ugly hands (2 of 3)
If you think that there is a good chance he is betting with nothing, that is you are ahead, then you are essentially giving him an easy chance to draw out on a vulnerable holding, without giving him a reason to fold.
I would consider a check call on the flop and a bet on the turn. If he raises you are likely done with the hand. If he calls then one of the two of you is drawing to beat the other. |

Re: 3 ugly hands (2 of 3)
How could you be way ahead with 5-5-K-Q-9?

Re: 3 ugly hands (2 of 3)
Hey Andy,
If the other guy has no pair, no heart, which Clark seems to think is a possibility, then he is drawing to 4 outs... As for the hand, I pray that I am someday good enough to be able to call preflop with 53o profitably (not saying it was a bad call for you; saying you are part of a select group who can pull that kind of crap off...). Postflop, I think you played it well. A check-raise on the end would have been kinda fun, but you wouldn't want him to muck, thus depriving you of the chance to show your 53o... Re: 3 ugly hands (2 of 3)
My definition of way behind or way ahead is needing two cards to catch up, not one. With no pair, the opponent has six outs, not four.

Re: 3 ugly hands (2 of 3)
Hi Clark,
Just calling is fine so long as you are pretty sure the BB will fold for a single bet. I would consider checkraising the flop if I thought it would push out the BB, and just calling would not...ie. get this pot heads' up as cheaply as possible. Did you consider folding on the flop? -Diplomat |
