How do you fully recover from a losing month?
I have played online poker for about 2 years and have been a decent player with .5/1 and 1/2 limit tables. Usually playing 25 hours a week and making about and average of $100 a month. However, last month just before considering moving up to 2/4, I have lost about $400. I feel that I have been playing as good as before but how do I know for sure, if I keep loosing by the end of the week after week? I have read Small Stakes Hold'em by Ed Miller, among 4 or 5 other books, and whenever I re-read it I got a little better, but I dont want to be playing with the book on my lap all the time. I know about variance and bad beats but is this normal variance? and how do you improve after bad beats? How do you keep your play strong without becoming weak-thight or loose aggresive.
Any suggestions? PS. I know this might be better for micro-limits but I figured that the experienced ones would be already on small or higher stakes, and maybe been successful through similar bad expierences. |

At 0.5/1: something like 3 BB/h 4 tabling = 12 $/h ~= 1200 $ / month. At 1/2 more of course.
100 $ a month just doesn't cut it. |

That would imply like 4-5 BB/100. Is that possible at .5/1? I've never played that limit but I know it's pretty unreasonable to assume at $2/4 and up... Maybe 1.5 BB/h per table is more reasonable. |

He means per table hour, and I think that's very excessive while 4 tabling. |

Re: How do you fully recover from a losing month?
No its not unreasonable, I'm currently running at 9.44BB/100 at .5/1, admitedly only over 4,500 hands as I play other limits also. However .5/1 is the best for bb/100.

Re: How do you fully recover from a losing month?
You didn't mention how many tables you're playing at the same time. I'm assuming one table, which would go a long way to explaining the $100 a month. Still, assuming you're spread 50/50 between .5/1 and 1/2, 100 hours a month, ~ 60 hands an hour is 6,000 hands a month, one weighted BB is $1.5 and you're making 1.11 bb/100 hands, or .66 bb/hr. You need to get your winrate at 1/2 above 2 bb/hour or 2/4's variance will destroy you. If you have a hard time dealing with a $400 downswing, how will it feel at $800 in the hole? My winrate at 1/2 was abot 2.5bb/100 and I still went down at least 125 bb when i started learning 2/4. Only now am i crawling out of the hole (thanks, bad beat jackpot tables and the fish you bring me.)
Go back down to .5/1 and start playing two tables. Get your winrate up to 2 bb then move to 1/2. Stablize there then go to 3 tables. Then, maybe, 2/4 might be good for you. |

Usually playing 25 hours a week and making about and average of $100 a month. [/ QUOTE ] Please tell me you're playing for the 8 gazillion bonuses out there and just not counting it as part of your profit. If you're playing 25 hrs a week and not whoring the bonuses (which would at least quadruple your current monthly $$$, and help you quickly get a bankroll where you could play more confidently at 2/4) it's a travesty. |
