TPGK, good river value bet?
I'm never very sure in hands like these, it seems like I get c/r on the river a lot. With top pair but a paired broadway on the board is this a bad place to value bet?

Re: TPGK, good river value bet?
I think the converter screwed up. It said that you bet and then called your own bet.
Either way I like the river bet. You'll get weaker Aces to call here. |

One of the guys was all in on the flop, the converter didn't play well with that.

Re: TPGK, good river value bet?
My guess is that Button has a high pocket pair: KK, QQ, or JJ, with KK or JJ being more likely for obvious reasons. I think he'd raise here if he had AK.
Nice hand. |

I don't see how you could play it much differently.
Does anyone like a check/raise on the flop? Personally, I think I would 80% of the time, but not on this board. |

Re: TPGK, good river value bet?
On the monochrome board? Hmm. I wouldn't have the cojones to do it. I don't think you would get a call behind you unless someone had an ace or a spade.

Re: TPGK, good river value bet?
I wouldn't C/R here. I don't know how confident you can be that one of the last two players will bet into you. And it looks like button is calling all-in, so you won't get the extra bet from him anyway.

[/ QUOTE ] You wouldn't check-raise to get an extra bet from button - you would check-raise to get an extra bet from UTG. However, as others have noted, I think that there is way too high a chance that the preflop 3-better would clam up on such a scary board, and I would bet out the flop here. EDIT: I guess that underlying my opinion of the purpose for check-raising is the opinion that a preflop 3-better would likely raise our bet, forcing UTG to call two cold. A check raise would force UTG to call bets one at a time, making it more likely that UTG would call those two bets. |
