43" Pioneer Elite PRO-920 HD. Open Box $4850 after tax, delivery, cables, surge protector & 4 year in home warranty. There's a $500 mail-in rebate too. Now I'm having buyer's remorse while I'm waiting for it to arrive. Was this a good deal?

open box TV's are generally not a great deal. those things are on 24/7 with people abusing them.
also, if you're not going to hang the thing on a wall, then I think DLP's are a MUCH better value. you could have saved about $2500 |

Is that a plasma? My mom bought a 42" HD Plasma with receiver and HD thing for $2000 like 6 months ago. But don't get a 42" HD Plasma cause it's not true HD.

[/ QUOTE ] Its picture quality is likely a lot worse than this (probably not 2.5K worth though). As far as being true HDTV, that is a vague term. I doubt you would notice the 200 pixels (1280*720) and there are almost zero (a couple of lcds and some wobbaling dlps) 1080 tvs. If you like the picture, it really isn't worth worrying about the exact technical details. Unless you want to wank off on the internet av forums |

I could afford such a TV. But $4850 (or $4350) is way too much to spend for me. Given a corallary to Moore's law, that baby will be had for under $2000 in 12-24 months. Instead I'd be spending on something that already hit bottom (or at least middle) price via the same corollary. Now, I do not feel the same way with computer equipment, but I'm a real techie on that and do need the latest and greatest when I decide to start passing out the cash for something.

WAY overpaid. You could get 2 TV's of almost the same quality for the same price. Look around.

For that price you could have probably found a 70 inch LCD or DLP with 1080i HD
