Friend of mine and I were sitting in a very soft 20/40 game yesterday where all 6 opponents were playing extremely loose-passive. Although the situation never actually took place, it kind of almost did, so we had a minor argument about it:
I'm in the BB with AJo, my friend (solid, good) raises UTG and it's folded to me. I say it's a call (or a raise, HU we both like outplaying eachother if the situation is right), he says it's a fold. Any clear-cut answer? (2) If there's a caller in between, does that change your answer? |

"This is completely ridiculous unless he only raises with AA or KK"
that's not true. if he only raises w/ AA, KK, AK, and QQ it's still correct to fold. |

okay, yes, I see your point here. I think I answered this one without thinking it through. BTW, I missed you at the O today. The game just wasn't the same without seeing you put in 6 bets on the flop. hehe.

that's not true. if he only raises w/ AA, KK, AK, and QQ it's still correct to fold. [/ QUOTE ] add JJ, 10 to his list of raising standards and I still think it might be correct to fold if he is a good post flop player. flop has an A: he has AA = you lose a big pot he has AK = split he has KK, QQ, JJ, 10's = you win small pot flop has a K: he has AA = you lose big pot he has KK = you lose big pot he has AK = duh he has QQ, JJ, 10's = you get the point Of course they are numerous other flops and scenarios, but I just don't think you make money in the long run if play AK heads up against a UTG raise from a solid player who plays well post flop and who has position on you. If you can add AQ or a smaller pair like 99 or 88 to his UTG raising standards then I play. I have no mathematical evidence to back this up, it's just my opinion. -Pete |
