I'm certain I visited a joint which somehow turned-off all the ringers on my cell phone. I believe that type equipment is illegal in the U.S. (Yes. I have considered the possibility such device could be utilized by an individual(patron) inside a joint.) [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

I don't know if it's legal or not, but I've been to a handful of casinos where cellphones would not work inside. Both in the U.S. and Canada.

Some B&M joints do use cellphone jamming technology. It obviously isn't illegal, or they wouldn't be using it. Think of it this way... would you rather be able to check your messages from the table, or have to deal with two idiots colluding over their phones in some other language(s)?

Let's get more specific:
1. Aside from the Borgata basement, what rooms are "jamming" cell phone use? 2. I believe that intentionally "jamming" or interfering with any over the air transmissions is a vioilation of FCC regulations and is a felony. 3. Sounds like the casino pumping oxygen in the room myth!! |

I tried to make a phone call when I was leaving a movie theater but was still inside and my phone wouldn't work until I walked outside. The funny thing was I still recieved a call during the movie.

As I understand it, active jamming is illegal, this is the use of a device taht sends out a siganl to interfere with the cell phone. However passive jamming is not illegal, that is construction techniques designed to block transmission through the building.
I have never heard of any jamming equipment that can change the settings on your phone and turn off the ringers. |

I'm pretty sure it's just your tin foil hat interfering with your cellphone.
