Default Dutch Boyd is extremely intelligent. I may back him..........

For 1850 bucks and a pretty good shot at him placing ITM,
why not. He has placed ITM in 20 percent of all big
tourneys he has entered, not too shabby.
Sure, it's a gamble, It just does'nt seem that bad a
package to me. I have to weigh how much I could play at
Party for 1850.00, which would be several tournaments.
I would much rather buy 50 percent of Scott Fischman,
but he ain't for sell.

You are assuming you will get paid if He wins. Its similar to drawing to a straight. IS you hand going to be good if you make your draw?

Default Another Assumption

You are worried about getting paid if he wins, assuming he wins. If Dutchy gets enough backers, none of his money is at risk, so why would he have any motivation or worries about winning? He could just look at it as a free trip and party and screw really trying to win the tourny. By losing he could cleverly avoid all issues about paying off over-subscribed backers.

Hi steamboat, and I thought about that. Also I just checked
my mail box and already have a link that shows several
people bitching about Dutch not paying them back for
deposits they made to him on something, gotta read it all.
He's still a smart guy, law school at 18, that put's him
well above the average face in the crowd.
Thanks (I like your comparison to the str8, and I'm usually
on the idiot end)

He is willing to do a contract (he is a lawyer!)
and if he was to dishonor it, he's smart enough to
know he would never get another percentage backer.
I honestly think he's good for it.

There are a lot of people out there that don't know about Pokerspot that might go for this. Same thing if he stiffs on this, there will e a lot of people that don't know about (plus he will have another cash to show a prospective investor). In this case you are aware of Pokerspot and still considering it; what makes you think if you do it and get stiffed the next person won't think "he's smart enough to know he would never get another percentage backer."

Who "backed" Dutch Boyd last time? I never bothered to find out every juicy tidbit (but then again, I suspect that 99% of the people denouncing DB for a thief and a tool haven't bothered either) but my understanding is that he was part owner of a poker site that went belly up. (I think I recall him saying a financial backer or money-man skipped town with some money or something.)

It is also my understanding that he has made efforts to pay back people who had money in their accounts when said site bit the big one. Unless I'm way off on bankruptcy law, he was under no obligation, legal or otherwise, to pay this money back. People who deposited money in the site knew (or should have known) the risk they were taking. Does it suck for them? Of course. Does it make DB a thief who premeditately conned people out of their retirement accounts? No.

If Doggin decides to back him in this tournament, he will do so forwarned, and will know the risks. To claim that anyone thinking about it must be a shill for Dutch Boyd is grade-school
