Cards trying for Burnett
I don't think I like spending this much on this kid.
[ QUOTE ] The Cardinals have offered A.J. Burnett a four-year deal worth almost $10 million per season. It may include an option for a fifth year. Burnett grew up a Cardinals fan and may take a little less money to go to St. Louis, but since it still seems likely that someone will step up and offer him $60 million-$65 million over five years, it's hard to imagine his accepting $40 million for four. I can just see them chanting "O-VER-RATED" in that shiny new Stadium.

Re: Cards trying for Burnett
Seriously...a younger outfielder is the priority. Not another very good starting pitcher. He'd be nice to have and all, but at that price....well, at least I know where the money I spend on tickets is going.

This also likely kills our chances of resigning Mulder after this coming year. ESPNews is reporting the deal is "almost done" whatever that means.

Re: Cards trying for Burnett
all of the deals i see with burnett hugely overvalue him. this would not be good for the cards. the yankees could take him on that money and i hope they do given the overall state of the club.

[ QUOTE ] this would not be good for the cards [/ QUOTE ] Agreed [/ QUOTE ] I have no idea how i misspelled it that badly in my op. what do you think of the farnsworth deal? pretty much every yankee fan ive spoken to doesn't like it, some being really negative, i dont understand this. even if he isnt as good as he was in ATL, which I'm not expecting him to be, the yankees still desperately need decent people in the bullpen. i dont see any downside to it either. I really don't like the ultra-pessimistic strain of yankee fan which is so common today. shafer, for example, is panicking. |

[/ QUOTE ] All I can tell you about Farnsworth is summed up in this anecdote: Last year in the playoffs against Houston in Game 4, the Braves brought in Farnsworth to seal the deal. I told my buddy "no way this choking ex-cub can finish in this situation." You know the rest. |
