\"Scalito\"
Is anyone actually offended by this term? I don't get it. If you are personally offended or can understand how someone would be offended, please explain.
My understanding is that the reference to Alito was made to suggest that he is very similar to Scalia (conservative, same judicial philosophy, catholic, italian, etc.) How is this offensive? If the only point of comparison was that they were both Italian I could imagine that someone might not like it (still not overly offensive, but, oh well.) Is this the equivalent of Phil Ivey being the Tiger Woods of poker? |

I thought it was a compliment? [/ QUOTE ] To be completely honest, its not that great of a comparision between the two. They have very different mannerisms and their views on the Commerce Clause are completely different. I think the Scalia is the the liberal boogieman and they pull his characature out of the closet to scare little children (i.e. liberals) to motivate action. -Gryph PS: sorry about the little children = liberals comment. It was just a good setup. |

Re: \"Scalito\"
I think the OP is referring to the story that was on Drudge and repeated by Chris Matthews on Hardball that the democrats were circulating talking points that used the nickname 'Scalito' and purportedly contained several ethnic/racial slurs.
The reality is that the 'talking points' were being circulated by one of Alito's former law clerks whose now part of the republican leadership. And there are no concievable racial or ethnic slurs in the piece in any case. "Scalito" is a nickname that Alito has been carrying for years and has been so referred by both friends and opponents for much of that time. |

Re: \"Scalito\"
Childish minds come up with childish names. Typical kindergarten sand box humor.
If I were Alito I'd say, "Thank you very much." And go on about my business. |

Re: \"Scalito\"
I didn't read it as name calling, rather just a marketing/slogan way to say he is a Scalia clone.

It doesn't. I won't. It's the same type of silly attempt at humor you get from Al Franken, who wasn't funny on SNL. |

It's the same type of silly attempt at humor you get from Al Franken, who wasn't funny on SNL. [/ QUOTE ] Different strokes for different folks. I find Al Franken extremely funny at times (and extremely un-funny at times.) I would guess that you don't know half the things Al Franken did for SNL --- the skits where he was an actor weren't that funny (Stewart Smalley) his writing, however, was very funny. |
