Are small live tournaments easier than online??
I have never played in a live tournament but I would like to go to the local casino which has a max capacity for about 160 players per tournament. I am just wondering how small live tournaments compare in difficulty to online tournaments. My guess is that online tournaments would be harder with all the arratic play plus you get more quality hands online.
I have 1 win under my belt ($5 rebuy 150+ players), ive done well in smaller online tournaments (less than 500 players) making the money and getting near the final table several times. I do well in these online tournaments which have bigger fields than that of which I would find in a live tourney at my local casino. Since I never played in a live tournament I don't know if those tournaments I play online are actually more difficult or easier than those I would find in my 160 player capacity tournaments at my local casino. *note: I doubt my local casino sells out every tourney so the actual average might be 100 players per tourney or even less* |

i would say slightly harder. [/ QUOTE ] would a 60 player live tournament be harder than a 120 or 160 player online tournament? (double and triple the live tourney size) |

Re: Are small live tournaments easier than online??
well it culd depend on the caliber of play of the live players, but if your comparing $5 rebuy's live to $5 rebuys online, the caliber will be much better live no matter the size of the field.(in most cases)
unless the players at your casino are just terrible. |

Re: Are small live tournaments easier than online??
Play in a low buy-in casino tourny will be like that in a $10 online tourny for the most part. However, you get a lot less hands and the rake is usually so sick that they probably don't have a lot of EV. However, they are a lot of fun, so you might as well give it a shot.

Re: Are small live tournaments easier than online??
Most tournaments in the SF Bay Area are either I)50-60 with rebuys in the 1st 3, 20 min rounds (15 min rounds thereafter) Rebuys $20 or $40 or II)100-120 with $60 rebuys 1st 3 rounds. In a typical field of 150 you must get lucky when it gets to 60 people to make the final table. Within 1 hour after the rebuy break the average chip stack is about 10 times the BB. Online I find the more hands per hour smaller blinds in relation to the stack allows for a more solid tournament strategy. 2 years ago many tournaments would have 50-70 people and it was mush easier to play well and make the final table.
My 2 cents. |

Re: Are small live tournaments easier than online??
I've played around 300 tournaments online, mostly $20-$50 with a dozen $100+ thrown in. I've won 2 pure MTTs (and a couple DSs and such), and the fields were around 200 people in the ones that I won. FTed a little over a dozen, incl. some 500+ entrant tournaments. I consider myself a good player.
I played my first live tournament the other day. $100 buy-in at the Tampa Hard Rock. Only 57 entrants, but no shortage on donks. In 4 hrs of play I only found 4 players whose play I had to actually respect. I won it going away and was only all-in for all my chips twice in those 4+ hrs. $10 Stars MTT = $100 live MTT |
