Default 30K Checkup

Ok, I guess this is more than a check up, my last ~1000 hands have brought
some bad results. So, I thought I'd ask some questions about my stats:
Mostly Party (though about 2000 paradise/pokerstars hands), and split
fairly evenly between 2/4 and 3/6

VPIP: 14.85
PFR: 7.8

BB/100: 2.29
SD/100: 16.13

Won WSF: 33.89
Went to SD: 30.37
Won at SD: 53.14

Agg rating on:
Flop 3.34
Turn 3.29
Rivr 3.43

Folded to river bet: 58%

After looking at my stats and reading Bob T's last 7-2suited post, I'm starting to think I'm too tight-aggressive. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Matt

You could probably add a few more hands preflop, but I don't think you are overly tight.

The one number that really jumps out at me is this:

Folded to river bet: 58%

That seems very high, and you are likely folding some winners on the river.

Thanks for looking at these, I really appreciate the suggestions.

I really meant that I thought I might be too tight/aggressive on the flop and beyond. I don't think I'm a good enough player yet to add many hands to my starters, I get in trouble by adding KJo, AJo in early, things like that.

But, after looking at my Aggression rating and the folded to river bet, I thought that indicated that I was giving up too quickly. Would these numbers indicate that, possibly, I need to look at some situations on the flop that I would see another card on?

I dont think you're too aggressive. Your PFR isn't even that high

Wow, you are right. I just looked at my number and it is much much lower than that. Is is possible that I call a little too much on ther river, but 58% is too high.

It is possible that he is folding too many winners on the river, but his showdown win percentage is not extremely high. It is also possible that he is calling too many bets on the turn.

I suggest you read this article by Ray Zee:

The Different Stages in a Player's Life

I think you are in what he calls the "tight" stage, which is good.

If you want to improve you probably have to progress through the other stages as well.

I think Mason's Poker Essays books contain many important ideas that helped me get out of that "tight" stage and become the maniac I am today Seriously though, I reccommend those books.

There is an essay in one of them where he says that you will never become a great poker player by only playing tight. When you loosen up your starting requirements you will find yourself faced with a lot of tricky decisions and you will learn from them.

Thanks MaxPower, that's a good read that I hadn't seen before. Looks like I need to start trying to add a hand here or there to play out. Also, maybe look at pot odds a little more on the flop, see if I have the numbers to call a small bet on implied odds.

I have one of Mason's essay books, but I'll pick up the others. Any other advice on progressing?

Thanks,
matt
