Default St. Louis Poker

I suspect I'm the only person who reads these boards in this city, but I'll make this post to keep the tourists in the know. Poker in St. Louis has been pretty straightforward. President's casino, once having a huge poker room, fell into ruin due to poor managment, and ended up with a 5 table 'poker pit' near table games and loud slot machines. 2 games of 4/8 holdem in a very crowded setup. Ameristar in the western burbs has a real room, 20 some tables, everything from 3/6 to 20/40.

I'm makin this post to alert people to a change. The president actually got their heads out of their collective asses, took all the nickel slots out of the "a" deck (1st floor), and put 10 tables there. 5 or 6 holdem and some 7-card stud. There's free food and an atmosphere you can actually play in. holdem is 4/8 with the intention to spread bigger games. Some of the worst players i've ever seen play regularly, and with the downtown location, plenty of fishy tourists. So all you 2+2 sharks, stay away. Everyone else, come on in

they were telling rumors of that last year when I was there in July....of course, the boom of Poker may have something to do with it

remind me to go back to St. Louis....they had killer hotdogs at that bar next to the tables in the corner...

Oh yes, you were there 2 moves ago. They were on the 3ed floor then, with 4 tables wrapped around a corner. Since then it moved down a floor and added a table. Now it's moved down another floor and added 5 more. The hotdogs are still available upstairs, a steal at $1!

Thanks. I go to St. Louis frequently for business, but have never been downtown. Now I have a reason to go. The Ameristar has some goog games, but the waiting lists tend to be very long.

Im in the Lou, I actually called them a week ago and the room manager informed me of the move. I tried to talk him into a NL game though, he said he'll go with what the clientele ask for...BS imo, hehe. Werent the games spread limit before, and do they have SL games anymore?

Are the President chips still the dirtiest in the world? Made several previous trips to that cardroom -- in its different locations on the boat. Everytime I was surprised how they were so "cleanliness challenged" in the physical features---tables, chips, chairs, carpet, supplies, etc etc. The words yucky and nasty come to mind. Hope they have fixed this.

Also---what about the St Louis poker rumor that Harrahs was to open (actually, reopen) a poker room at their Riverport facility?

I dont think harrahs has one, hopefully one of the new casinos they are building will get the hint and open some good rooms.

I hated to see the downtown room go to crap. I'v really like the old feel(dirty)room on the fourth floor. The Pres. poker had action then. Has the number of players pick up since this last move? It may be time to replay the Pres.

To reply to everyone... the rake used to be max 3, now it's max 4, same as Ameristar. The chips are still some of the dirtiest in the country IMO. There is a good crowd of players, on any night of the week, and all weekend. Yes, the lists at Ameristar are sickening some days (100 people on a 3/6 list on a saturday afternoon). Latest i've heard is that the harrah's room in St. Louis will be opening around labor day. Good luck getting a NL game to go, it'll be hard enough getting a structured 5/10 with a kill to fly. Yes, the holdem is still spread limit 1-4-8-8, 1/2 blinds.
