Default 9 handed vs. 10 handed

Why does pokerstars carry 9 handed NL hold'em tables and 10 handed limit hold'em?

The rake at 9 ten handed tables is lower than 10 nine handed tables. There is also something for a less cluttered table with only 9 player spaces?

Take your pick.

This is precisely what has stopped me playing there.
And I used to have an even bigger bugbear about playing 'shorthanded' than I do now.

We've sorta had this discussion on here in the past.
9 handed might not seem like much, but for someone who wants to play against as many opponents as possible (tight=right) it can make a difference. Maybe much of it is psychological (especially in the past).

You only need a couple of people sat out to turn the game into 7-handed, which is 200 times more like a shorthanded 6 person table than it is a 10-handed one. The effect is exponential.
I'd have to know the games were *more* profitable to play at a site that only had 9 seats.

They wouldn't, which is why they use 9-handed tables, despite knowing that the vast majority prefer 10-handed.
That was Cyndies point.

The leather-asses like it because their AK holds up more often at 9 handed.

they don't ...9 ten handed tables...is LOWER...they have nine handed tables.

the screen is not as crowded...Absolute and Vic Chandler have 9 handed...it is a difference. There are fewer player spots at the table. Absolute has quite detailed player graphics and they are large, and refreshment tables too...Chandler has a very open table that is not cluttered.
