Default Cards trade Drew

Cards send Eli Marrero and JD Drew to Braves for top prospect Adam Wainright, Jason Marquis, and Ray King.

Anyone here have any knowledge of the Wainright kid?

You should feel very good about getting Wainwright for Drew. Wainwright (23) was Baseball America's #18 prospect prior to the 2003 season. The Cardinals didn't have a single player in the top 100.

In 2001 and 2002, Wainwright led his league in strikeouts. He has very good overall numbers and a great K/BB rate.

2001 (A): 165 IP, 10W-10L, 3.77 ERA, 184 K, 48 BB
2002 (A+): 163 IP, 9W-6L, 3.31 ERA, 167 K, 66 BB
2003 (AA): 149.2 IP, 10W-8L, 3.38 ERA, 128 K, 37 BB

Wainwright was considered the Braves' top pitching prospect.

Some think Andy Marte has passed him up. However, getting a guy with a enourmous ceiling like Wainright for Drew is amazing work by Jocketty. I think the Braves really got hosed on this one.

As a Cubs fan, I'm peeved. The Cards getting some arms to matchup with Prior/Wood/Zambrano doesn't let me sleep any better at night.
