First, don't assume that the limits mean the same thing. It is said that the same limit is significantly more difficult in online play than in live play. Lower limits attract better players online due to the possibility to play multiple tables, the larger number of hands per hour, and the reduced rake and toke compared to B&M play. Playing multiple tables, a skilled hobbyist player can make about as much playing 2/4 online as playing 6/12 to 8/16 live assuming the same quality of competition. In short, you should expect to run into better players at lower limits online.
