Default Lord help me, I\'m having a hard time counting above 6.

So I play almost exclusively 5-handed or less now. Sometimes 6-handed, but rarely more.

This game was shorthanded but has filled up and is now 8-handed. Villain is completely unknown and has been sitting at the table for under an orbit.

He limps somewhere in EP. Very EP, maybe UTG+1 or UTG+2. Not first to act though. Another guy limps. Folded to me in BB and I raise A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. They both call.

Flop is A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. I bet. Limper raises. Other limper folds. I 3-bet. Limper caps. I call.

Turn is the 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Holla if you've got a plan.

I would check/call this down. In the games I play I think that you will see a counterfeited A3 or a worse ace enough to make a calldown profitable. Also if he has a flush you have 4 outs to a win.

EDIT: This isn't too significant, but you also have 4 outs against 33.

If you were against a solid player you could probably fold this turn card since given the flop action the solid player can only have a 77 for a flopped set or a flush draw with KcQc,KcJc,QcJc,JcTc(yes solid players do cap for a free card occasionally) You are against an unknown which means it is both unsafe and unwise for you to narrow down your opponent's hand to this degree. Given the flop action against an unknown I would still make the assumptions that Im probably against a flush draw or a set or two pair, but I would still call down even when the club hits the turn becuz there are still a lot of other "illogical" hands he can have that I am still ahead of like an overplayed weaker ace, total bs or if the villain had A3 you just turned him. It is true that given the flop action along with the turned club you are now a significant underdog to win this hand, but I still think the pot is big enough for calling down to be profitable against an unknown, so calling down is what I would do. Another turn line that may be considered is the bet/fold line. Ideally, this line can save us a big bet when were behind and it makes us the same amount or more money when we are still ahead. I would not take this line against an unknown since this line opens up the possibility of you being outplayed off the best hand. Against an unknown I would check/call down. Another factor that is important is 8.7% of the time you will river your opponent if he has a set of 3's or a flush, this small percentage combined with the times you are somehow still ahead on the turn makes calling down a profitable strategy given the pot odds you are receiving against an unknown IMO.

I agree.

I was going to add your edit but you edited my correction too fast.

hey Westley,

You present a good analysis of the hand. However, it is very difficult to read as one large block of text. If you were to outline your thoughts in multiple paragraphs it would be far more effective and more likely that others would read it.

westley and lmn nailed it. The couterfeited A3, the chance you will draw out on a flush / small full house, and the chance you are ahead all add up to a passive call down.

You also have ways to chop the pot or even draw out on a bigger ace. Call the turn at least.

Thanx for the constructive criticism, I agree with you that my post was poorly organized. In the future I will try not to look at internet porn while im posting on 2+2. I believe this was the source of the problem. Although 2+2 and internet porn both turn me on, it is clear that I cannot do both efficiently.
