Better Line for Bottom Set?
This is from a 20-table SnG.
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t20 (9 handed) converter CO (t1510) Button (t1990) SB (t1210) Hero (t1620) UTG (t1470) UTG+1 (t900) MP1 (t1420) MP2 (t2190) MP3 (t1190) Preflop: Hero is BB with 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. UTG calls t20, 3 folds, MP3 calls t20, 2 folds, SB completes, Hero checks. Flop: (t80) 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (4 players) SB checks, Hero checks, UTG checks, MP3 bets t60, SB folds, Hero calls t60, UTG folds. Turn: (t200) T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets t200, MP3 calls t200. River: (t600) 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets t250, MP3 raises to t700, Hero folds. Final Pot: t1550 1. I check-called the flop because the board didn't strike me as draw heavy, and I wanted to give someone a chance to get attached to the pot. Looking back, I see that there were actually a lot of straight possibilities- would leading out have been better? 2. I put Villain on top pair with his bet, so once a scare card came on the turn, I decided it was time to build a pot, before any more action killing cards dropped off. 3. I still thought I had the best hand on the river, so I bet. But once he raises, easy fold, right? I have difficulty putting him on a gut shot on the flop, but I also don't see him raising the river without a straight. Thanks for your help. |

Re: Better Line for Bottom Set?
I probably lead the flop.
Also, that river fold is gross. His range is *FAR* wider than a straight. |

Re: Better Line for Bottom Set?
Yes. Any 2 pair.
The play in the 20-table SnGs is disgustingly poor. He could have all sorts of junk. Putting him on a specific hand is tricky, but folding with that hand getting those odds just cant be good. |

[/ QUOTE ] I agree, more than likely he has 2 pair, but even if he doesn't the pot is offering you odds that are too good to pass on. |

Re: Better Line for Bottom Set?
I haven't read the responses, but I hate the fold. Hate. I much prefer leading the flop as well. With no preflop raiser, no reason to think anyone will bet. Checking through is awful, not only because of free cards, but because of the fact that you have a great hand and need to build the pot.
The raise on the river could be JT, J-anything, J5 suited, 65, T9, who knows what else. Also I see dumbasses play QQ-AA this way a lot, esp. AA. I can see not pushing over the raise on the river, but there's no way I'm folding. |

Re: Better Line for Bottom Set?
Lead flop. You have a monster, create a big pot.
Call river, his range is wider than a straight. |
