Default Let the Punishment Fit the Crime

Many (if not all) religious adherents deal with tremendous feelings of guilt and fear over how their lives will be viewed by God.
If blind faith in a religion is a crime (and I think that it is in a philosophical sense), than the guilt these folks experience is a just punishment for said crimes.
Personally, I do not deal with much guilt in my life although I try to behave as kindly and ethically as I can. Yes, there are times where I feel badly about things I have said or done, especially in my younger days.
However, the degree of fear and guilt that most conservative religious people live with on a daily basis is astounding.
I firmly believe this is their Karmic retribution for being stupid. That makes me smile.
And if god exists he is laughing right along with me.
