TPWK runs into river value bet question...
Hi all, I have lurked around this forum for a while, and after just becoming casino legal, went out to play real live poker for the first time. Playing at a very loose 2/5 full kill pot game, which makes almost every hand (including this one) 5/10. Villain is extremely LPP (in 50% of hands) like the rest of my opponents but seems to recognize that I'm a tight player after unusually folding a couple hands to me instead of calling to the river like he does with everyone else.
Preflop: Hero is on the button with A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] UTG folds, UTG+1 calls, Villain calls, MP1 calls, 1 fold, CO calls, Hero calls, SB completes, BB checks. Flop (7 SB): A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] SB checks, BB checks, UTG+1 checks, Villain bets, 2 folds, Hero raises, 2 folds, Villain 3-bets, Hero calls. Turn (6.5 BB): 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Villain checks, Hero checks River (6.5 BB): T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Villain checks, Hero ? After villain 3-bets the flop but checks both turn and river, does a river bet cause him to fold or call with a worse hand often enough? Thanks in advance for answering what might be a simple quetsion for y'all... |

Re: TPWK runs into river value bet question...
Why didn't you bet the turn?
Given your description of villan, I don't think there's much value in a bet here. The only thing I would see of value is getting him to fold a better hand. Given the fact that he checked the turn, I don't think he has an ace. Prob a worse flush draw. |

Re: TPWK runs into river value bet question...
I didn't bet the turn because villain hadn't 3-bet anyone else since I had sat down and was otherwise very passive. I felt that his 3-bet meant I was up against some kind of two pair or a set, in which case betting just seems like chip spewing to me. After he checked the river was when I started to change my mind about what he might have...

Re: TPWK runs into river value bet question...
I cap the flop and bet the turn here. You have a good hand and a monster draw. I don't mind checking behind this river. He's not calling a busted flushdraw or folding anyting you beat. I think you're behind here too often to try and squeeze a value bet out.
