Default Why Dems Lose Red States

I was driving around the other day and there was an add for my democratic county freeholders. In the add george bush visited the republican party headquarters. Western old timsy music started playing and George talked with a mid-western accent and slang. Lots of golley gees and talk of time on the farm. Of course, the upscale new jersey republicans wanted nothing to do with the country yocal.

Did they really need to make fun of the entire mid-west during the add? The tie to Bush is specious enough. They are incumbents in largely uncontested seats, they shouldn't need to do this. Sure, the add only ran in new jersey (like a billion times) but I bet it just might leak out because people heard it or talk about it.

You gotta be more respectful of people if you want to win elections.

In all fairness, Repubs frequently use similar tricks whenever they talk about "Those northeastern, elite limousine liberals" or sardonically referring to the entire West coast as the "Left coast."

I agree. I think one of the reasons Bush 41 lost to Clinton was because he got very whiny the last few weeks of the campaign, saying, among other things, that his dog knew more about foreign policy than those two idiots, Clinton and Gore. Gore himself seemed to be talking down to people when he ran for president, and Kerry had an aura of Boston Brahminism about him. It's hard to make yourself into something your not.

I'm seeing a trend here. Toward agreement on something.
And that's a good thing - I think.

You really think that adds (ads to the rest of us) by Republicans are respectful of people or issues?
