Pot equity needed with x amount of fold equity...
If I know I have approximately 40% fold equity in a given situation, how much pot equity would you recommend to make it +EV to bet?
I am guessing around 40%, but am I way off? Thanks |

Re: Pot equity needed with x amount of fold equity...
It depends on the size of the pot and the size of your bet

Re: Pot equity needed with x amount of fold equity...
I always bet roughly 70% of the pot unless I am trying to push someone out.
Say it's 200NL, pot of $20 on the flop, bet of $15. Or on the turn it's a pot of $50, bet of $35. |

Re: Pot equity needed with x amount of fold equity...
You're betting $35 into a $50 pot with 40% fold equity. The fold equity alone is worth $20($50*.4). Therefore, to make this bet +EV you need at least $15 worth of pot equity. If your bet is called there will be $110 in the pot, so your hand will have to be good at least ($15/$110)=13.6% of the time for this play to be +EV. This is why you need to specify the bet and pot sizes, if these numbers were different, the answer would be different.

Re: Pot equity needed with x amount of fold equity...
So if I have KT on a turn of K947, and I think I will win this pot at least 14% of the time, it is +EV to bet, correct?
Thanks for taking the time to explain it clearly. I will stick this in my notes. |

Yes, assuming there's a 40% chance your opponent will fold and you're betting 70% of the pot.
