If you ignore the flop call, which I think in retrospect was far too lose, I am curious about the river play. At the time I thought that qq/kk any ace or even kj/qj would be betting here, do you think this is a better spot to bet out or try for a checkraise?

I agree flop call is too loose. River is a must bet. 5/10 players are passive, especially on rivers when the 4th card to a straight comes down.

I would have folded the flop. Barring that, I would have checkraised the turn once button gets out of the way, I don't expect him to have an ace here and I think the flop coldcall + turn checkraise will give you a great chance to win for only one extra bet. Once I get to the river I would lead, as it's not a great card coupled with the fact that you've been cold calling the way and the low chance that he has an ace really make checking kind of ugly. In short, this hand was messy.

I know you asked that the flop call be ignored, but Dane S already gave you fine river advice. I think this flop is a must bet. If UTG raises, Button is much more likely to fold, and with a likely 9 outs, getting 8:2 in this scenario is pretty nice (especially if UTG is the type to raise overs in this situation). If UTG just calls you often figure to have the best hand and a draw, and the pot will be small enough (as long as button doesn't raise) that 6-outters should fold the turn.
