Default Bizarre Cardplayer update

[ QUOTE ]
Just like he did in Aruba, Jack McClelland channels the spirit of WSOP announcer Johnny Grooms by calling the last hand a "groundskinner."

[/ QUOTE ]

Isn't the phrase "channel the spirit" usually used in association with people who are dead?

or, more broadly, when they aren't physically present.

Yes, quite bizarre. IMHO, not quite as bizarre as this update from the United States Poker Championship? Are they not supposed to be reporting on poker? It's just super to see John Juanda doing his part for the environment by wearing a polar bear costume on the Atlantic City boardwalk.

"Date / Time: 2005-10-05 19:00:00
Title: The Polar Bear Press Conference
Log: There was a press conference held on the Boardwalk yesterday by a few professional poker players, trying to raise awareness about an upcoming vote in Congress on a budget reconciliation bill that, if passed, would open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling and gas exploration. The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on this bill on October 16th.

The key people at the press conference were professional players David Singer and Bill Gazes, along with Gazes' girlfriend Deborah Lapidus, who works for the Alaska Coalition of New Jersey, which focuses on gathering support at the grassroots level to pressure members of Congress from their home communities. They feel that energy companies are using recent news headlines (the hurricanes, rising gas prices) to push through legislation that could destroy important natural habitats. Some of the other players showing their support at the press conference were John Juanda, Erik Seidel, John Phan, and David Pham.

ESPN missed yesterday's press conference, but videotaped an interview with Singer, Gazes, and Lapidus during this break. They had a polar bear costume on hand, but didn't put it on for the ESPN interview. (But Juanda wore it yesterday in the press conference out on the boardwalk.)"
