Default Omaha tourney tips

I just signed up for an Omaha Hi/Lo tourney for the heck of it, and I don't play much Omaha. What do I need to know?

Play it like you would a limit tourney for the first hour. ie, play lots of pots and try to build a big stack by hitting some big hands. Don't pay people off if you are obviously behind, but i would play almost every A3 combo and most 23 combos during this period.

After the first hour, involve some NL tourney concepts, ie, identify weak players who will let go of pots, and isolate them to take advantage of their weak play. You seldom just steal the blinds, but if its heads up, you will often win with a bet on the flop.

Also, it is easiest to bluff into paired boards or boards with all high cards in a shorthanded pot, because often times players will call with one pair and a weak low in hopes that either one is good enough to win.

I assume you mean that you know how to play o8 but have never played a tourney?

If this is a low buy-in, they'll probably be a lot of bad play, but don't let this distract you from only playing good starting hands and only drawing to the nuts.

The biggest difference I think, is that you will find yourself playing for half the pot more aggressively in a tournament because of the high number of people in each hand. Basically, a lot of the bad players will be raising and reraising in multiway pots with A2 for the nut low, so if you have the nut high in multi-way pot you should be taking full advantage here to get 1/2 the pot and let everyone else get 1/4ed.
